I redid the low-voltage lighting around our backyard last fall and one of the things I wanted to fix was the power setup.
The old installation had a power supply inside the garage with a pretty long low-voltage cable running outside. It worked, but the wiring was messy and hard to troubleshoot.
This time I used a waterproof 24V supply closer to the actual lighting runs and mounted it in a protected spot near the back of the house.
The setup is much cleaner now and I was able to split the garden and patio lighting into separate runs.
The main thing I learned was to calculate the load first instead of just buying the biggest power supply available.

For outdoor landscape and garden lighting, the current 120W Waterproof LED Power Supply is available in 12V or 24V, uses an aluminum housing, carries an IP67 rating, and offers Single Wire or Dual Wire output options. It also includes overload, short-circuit, over-voltage and over-temperature protection.
Matching the power supply voltage to the lighting system and sizing it around the actual connected load are both important before installation.

Waterproof LED power supplies in this collection use two different housing structures, and they are intended for different scales of installation.
Choosing by wattage alone can easily lead to a power supply that is physically larger or more heavy-duty than the project actually needs.

Aluminum Housing + Potting Structure
Better suited to commercial outdoor lighting, architectural lighting, landscape systems, signage and longer LED-strip installations.
The current range covers approximately 30W–500W with 12V / 24V / 36V / 48V output options.
LPV Plastic Housing + Potting Structure
More compact and better suited to residential lighting, smaller landscape installations and compact LED-strip projects.
The current LPV range covers approximately 35W–150W with 12V / 24V output options.

60W or 120W for a small outdoor LED strip installation?
I’m adding 24V LED strip under a covered patio and the total load should be around 40W.
I’m trying to decide between the 60W and 120W waterproof supplies.
The 60W sounds like it should be enough, but I might extend the lighting later and add another section along the steps.
Would it make more sense to just buy the 120W now?

Start with the actual connected wattage and the realistic expansion you expect.
The 60W model is available in 12V / 24V / 36V / 48V and uses a single-output aluminum housing.
The 120W model offers 12V / 24V with either Single Wire or Dual Wire outputs, so it gives you more capacity and more flexibility when dividing the lighting into separate runs.
If your current 24V installation is comfortably within the 60W rating and you do not expect significant expansion, there is no need to choose 120W simply because it is larger.
If you know another lighting run will be added, sizing for that planned load now may make more sense.

I’m planning several 12V lighting runs around a larger backyard and I’m looking at the 300W waterproof supply.
I noticed it can be ordered with single, dual or triple wire outputs.
Does the triple-wire version mean I can run three separate lighting branches from the same power supply, or does it change the actual 300W rating?

The different output options change how the power supply connections are distributed; they do not increase the total 300W rated output.
On the current 300W model:
12V: Single / Dual / Triple Wire options
24V: Single / Dual Wire options
The power supply remains rated at 300W total, so all connected lighting runs together must remain within the unit’s overall capacity.
Multiple output leads can make wiring separate landscape, architectural or LED-strip branches more convenient, but load planning still needs to consider the combined system.
